Horse Trails / Endurance

7 Nights, 8 Days

All inclusive accommodation and meals (excluding drinks), horse & equipment, ride entry fee, transport to the ride and our personal attention.  Your vacation can easily be extended by adding additional nights to enjoy our beautiful farm on horseback.

If you have chosen this additional extra we will pick you up at the Windhoek International Airport and transfer you to Okaputa Guesthouse.  At the farm we will give you time to settle into your room and then introduce you to your horse and give you a briefing.  If your arrival at the farm is before 12:00 in the afternoon, you will get your first training session that same afternoon.  In the evening you will stay at Okaputa Guesthouse.  Sundowners can be ordered and dinner is served in the dining area.

After a delicious breakfast, we saddle up the horses and go for a game viewing ride.  The rest of the day is spent relaxing on the farm.  We allow you some personal time to either sit at the pool with an ice cold drink or to go for a guided hike (not included in the price).  Later that afternoon we will explain some of the endurance may and may nots, as well as the theory of the vet checks.

We will be on horseback for most of the day and will have a refreshing lunch at the guesthouse.  The ride will be about 5 hours and a practice vet check will be done.

After breakfast you can either go for a horse ride or spend the morning taking a stroll on the farm.  We will return to the guesthouse for lunch.  Today is the last day to get more familiar with your endurance horse and for another training session in the afternoon and vet check practice run.  Packing for the endurance ride will be done as well.

It's off to the endurance ride.  On arrival we settle our horses and decide where to put our grooming and holding area.  Depending on our arrival time, we either exercise our horses before or after entries, weigh-in and vet check.  On Friday early evening the pre-ride briefing will be held where the route and basic rules will be explained.  We will join fellow riders for a drink and have dinner, followed by an early night.

Early rise!  Depending on the season and weather, the endurance rides usually start at 6:00 a.m.  We ride together and even though one of our grooms will be helping us, you are expected to groom and get your horse through the vet check.  The horses always come first and of course their comfort and well-being is our first priority.  Depending on the terrain, distance, horse and rider, the speed will be anything between 13 and 18 kilometers per hour.  After the completion of the endurance ride, we care for our horses and make sure that all is well before going to the prize giving.  We join the other riders for a well deserved dinner and drinks, then it's off to bed early.

Feeling sore and with some hot coffee, we care for and feed the horses. After a wholesome breakfast and a final chat with our fellow riders, we pack up and head for home by about 10:00 a.m.

Time to say goodbye.  If you have added the additional extra, we will transfer you back to Windhoek International Airport to see you on your way to your next Namibian holiday destination.  Should you wish to extend your stay, we will be more than happy to accommodate you.
